Elder Encouragement

Working in Columbus,
I have noticed a lot of Church’s bulletin boards reminding us to hold the flood
victims in our prayers. Everyone in
our congregation probably knows someone who has been touched by the flood.
Families have lost clothing, food, cars, homes, jobs, possessions and even life. Jesus tells us in Proverbs 3:25
that we are to have
no fear of sudden disaster for the Lord will be our confidence . . . Does this
statement comfort
you? Hopefully it does.
The Lord God Almighty promises us that we will not be alone.
In Psalms 57:1,
He offers us refuge until the disaster has passed.
Do we have a responsibility
to the victims of the flood? According
to the Holy Bible, we do.
Scripture tells us
in Colossians 3:12
to clothe
ourselves with compassion and kindness.
I Peter 3:8
reminds us to live in harmony with one another, be sympathetic, love as brothers,
be compassionate and humble.
So, therefore,
I do think we have a responsibility to use our gifts and talents that God gave us
in helping our brothers. At Waynesburg
Christian Church, we have taken up an offering to be
distributed to
the flood victims. There are
organizations
like Love Chapel and Salvation Army that you may contact to offer physical and material
help. Local churches have set up work
days to assist the victims.
By the grace of
God, this disaster could have
happened to anyone of us. It is
easy for us to come home to a dry house, with food and enjoy all of the blessings
that God has so generously
bestowed upon us. Let us not forget
what Jesus said in Matthew 25:40.
“I tell you the
truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did
for me.”
May the Lord be
pleased with our actions.
The Lord’s servant,
