Elder Encouragement
Previous letter
Consider this scenario. . .
You are being banished to an island and have the choice of taking one personal item.
ANY THOUGHTS?
Would it be pictures of your family, IPOD, cell phone, a book on history, list of
people who have wronged you? We all
would probably choose different things that are associated with things that we like.
As Christians, you might think that the
answer to this is simple —God’s Holy Word.
However, how important is this book to us.
Do we read it as often as we check messages from our cell phone or “our hit list”? We all know what the correct answer
is. the bible is a lamp unto my feet
and a light unto my path. It is god
pouring our his love for us. It is
an owner’s manual for living on this earth.
It gives us a peek of eternal life and hope for our life here.
A lot of people say that they know the
Bible. I believe Satan even mentioned
a few things that he knew. Reading
the Bible is not the same as breathing in His Word.
Our nourishment comes from the bread of life.
My substance for my time on this earth is God’s living Word.
It has never failed me and never will.
So how do we make the Bible alive to us? First, it takes discipline.
I have to admit that some of the bible is hard to comprehend.
When that happens, I trust in the Holy Spirit to make it come alive to me
in God’s time. Secondly, I am grateful
to God that I have the ability to read it and a free country to read it in. Thirdly, I am encouraged to see my brothers
and sisters grow in the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
So when Kathy wants to send me off to my
deserted island,
my
Bible
will be my companion.
The Lord’s servant,
Dwain Murphy
